The Little Dipper Replica (LDR) is a full-scale reproduction of the Lockheed Model 33 Little Dipper designed by John Thorp and his engineering team at Lockheed in 1944. Noted Aeronautical Engineer, Mr. Emerson Stevens was commissioned by Robert "Bob" Dart of Mayville, NY to create this wonderful design to meet US FAA FAR Part 23 standards. All Engineered drawings have been completed, and structural analysis has been calculated. Work on a proof-of-concept prototype was started, but this work was not sold along with the design rights to us. The parts that were created remained at "Dart Airport" and in the possession of Bob's museum. Mr. Stevens, the designer was associated with Bell Aerospace for 27 years working on helicopter designs and a number of V/STOL programs, including the D137 fighter proposal, D188A/FX-109, X-22A and other projects. He was the chief design engineer for Tony Fox of FoxJet Corp. In this role, Mr. Stevens developed the FoxJet ST-600 business jet aircraft. He also designed the Dart Skycycle, Dart Gypsy and the helicopter that went on to become the "Baby Bell" also known as the Safari according to Bob Dart.
We are considering providing the 74 drawings as a study guide for the homebuilt aircraft community to use so that they can learn how a professional aeronautical engineer designs an aircraft. The pages range from letter size to 24" x 72" in size. The idea that we have is to print the set on 11" x 17" paper. This is not a definite plan, just something that we thought may be of interest to the aircraft homebuilder/designer. This set of drawings will only be provided as an educational aircraft design study only. No prototype has been built and tested.
